Bungie Archives - Desk Chair Analysts

From December 13 to the end of the month, Epic Games will be giving away a free game every day. Now, unlike the weekly games they normally do, these games will only be available for 24 hours. If you sleep on it, you miss out.

Also, unlike the weekly games, you will not know what’s coming down the pipe. Each game is a secret until the day comes.

Today’s game, however, is Destiny 2: The Legacy Collection. This will definitely be something I’ll be picking up. The unfortunate bit is that I own most of this collection on Steam, but not all of it.

What would really be nice is if Bungie would let me sync all of my purchases so I can play it all in one place. Maybe I can just switch versions when I need to access certain content.

Can I even do that?

But I digress.

Along with the 17 days of Epic-mas, Epic Games Store is holding its holiday sale. There you can get 33% off any purchases $14.99 or more. Maybe they have some Baldur’s Gate in there.

Bungie delays Destiny 2’s last expansion

I think Bungie might be ready to give a TED Talk on how to piss off your fanbase. You all released a subpar expansion in Lightfall. Letting employees go didn’t help. Surely, you have all you need for that presentation.

What’s this? I stand corrected.

Bungie announced on Monday that their last expansion for Destiny 2 has been pushed back to June 4th, 2024. Whispers were going on in the background saying that it may be delayed because nobody liked Lightfall and dropped off Destiny 2 entirely.

Because of that poor reception, Bungie laid off 8 percent of their staff. Those layoffs were tied to community management and social media, engineering, and QA. So, as expected with less people working, it may take a bit longer to finish what a bigger team had started.

Little has been shown about The Final Shape. It has been billed as the expansion to conclude the “light and dark saga” which will see players enter The Traveler.

Bungie is the latest studio to be hit by layoffs

As has been the news lately around here, it doesn’t seem like any company will be spared from layoffs. It especially rings true in the gaming industry where yet another developer has been hit.

Bungie, the PlayStation studio responsible for the Destiny series, has started their process of letting people go.

Jason Schreier of Bloomberg was the one to break the news to everyone. He stated on Twitter that Pete Parsons, CEO of Bungie, had notified everyone about a “team meeting” to discuss some news.

Destiny 2 developer Bungie is the latest PlayStation studio to have layoffs. Full scope isn't clear yet, but CEO Pete Parsons emailed the company this morning to say they'll be having a team meeting today to talk about "some news today coming out of Bungie" as staff are informed

There have been no official numbers as of the time of this writing. However, those who had been let go have already let folks know over social media.

All of this is coming after layoffs hit other PlayStation Studios over the past few weeks. Media Molecule, PlayStation’s Visual Arts Service Group, and Naughty Dog were also hit.

As for the industry, we’ve have Epic Games cut 830 jobs. But that’s just a taste as 2023 has not been a great year for employment even if the company has seen some growth.
