The makers of Outriders and Bulletstorm, People Can Fly, like everyone else, is falling on some hard times. More layoffs are incoming.

Kotaku reports that the studio’s development director Adam Alker made an announcement to staff working on “Project Gemini”. This is a game that is currently being worked on for Square Enix. Over 30 people are getting laid off while an additional 20 have been moved over to other projects.

The cuts were explained to be due to budget limitations and shrinking scope. This seems like something that Square Enix could have fixed, but here we are.

We understand that this decision impacts each of you, and we want to express our gratitude for your hard work, dedication, and contributions thus far.”

Project Gemini development isn’t looking to hot itself. It was revealed last January and was planned to be released in 2026. But, an update on the project was shared in November. It stated that People Can Fly was in “strategic discussions” with Square Enix. Now the project is “highly probable” that it “will not be continued…on the current commercial terms”. On top of that, Take-Two left a partnership that would see them publish People Can Fly’s Project Dagger. The team is still working on that title.

Just pay your devs! It shouldn’t be that hard! This really is such a shame.
