Twitch is pulling the plug on Prime Video watch parties

So, where we watching now?

Looks like Tech Talk Thursdays jump the gun on this one. After wondering why Twitch removed the feature, it seems its being pulled to suggest another end to the pandemic.

The streaming service owned by Amazon is pulling Prime Video watch parties after seeing its use decline “over the years.” The feature will be removed on April 2.

The feature was made available to everyone in 2020 just after people were placed on lockdown. It was (and still is) a great way for communities to get together and watch content together.

For those unfamiliar with the feature, it allowed streamers and viewers who were subscribed to Amazon Prime Video the ability to watch its content together on Twitch. Anybody without Amazon couldn’t watch, but were still able to chat.

While Amazon would like to invest their money elsewhere, I imagine that creators will likely take their communities elsewhere to do similar streams. While this may a big get for those services, Amazon will likely take a hit as those eyeballs won’t be on Twitch or Amazon Prime.

This is a missed opportunity for Amazon, but I definitely don’t feel bad for them.

Here’s hoping Discord ceases on this opportunity.
