The October sales numbers from Circana are in and who was surprised at what the number one stunners were going to be. The PlayStation 5 topped the hardware charts while Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 took the software crown this month. It should be obvious how much they crushed it at release.
In overall news, it appears that not a lot of people are buying hardware as spending is down 23% year-over-year. However, year-to-date sales were up 6%.
PlayStation 5 took number 1 in unit and dollar sales. Xbox Series X|S was number 2 in dollar sales while the Nintendo Switch was number 2 in unit sales.
On the software side, again Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 took top honors and is now sitting at fourth spot on 2023’s best-selling game. It also did very well in physical sales beating its predecessor by a two-figure percentage.
Super Mario Bros. Wonder came in at number 2. Following behind was Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Madden NFL 24, and EA Sports FC 24, in that order. Last month’s champion, Starfield, fell down to 14th.
You hate to see it!
But before we bring out the charts, you may notice a certain writer missing. Alan Wake 2 is not on the charts because Epic Games is “not part of the DLP”. That means we won’t be seeing any digital sales numbers from them. Apparently, the game didn’t make much of a splash on console, either. Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker didn’t pick it up from the “top 150 titles on either PS5 or Xbox Series X/S” for the month.
Maybe he’s still in the Dark Place. Is that what they call it?
