I’m not entirely sure why people are getting off on attacking innocent people nowadays, but this honestly needs to stop. I don’t know what these people have against Nintendo, but why stoop to this level?

Nintendo announced today that they will be cancelling their live event in Tokyo. This was due to increased threats to their staff that has now escalated to fans.

A press release shared that the “all ages celebration of Nintendo fun” was called off with the tournaments associated with it postponed. This was shared via Twitter user Genki.

According to company, employees of the company have been receiving threats nonstop. Recently, the threats began targeting spectators, attendees, and anyone working at Nintendo Live 2024. It was forced to call of the event out of an abundance of caution which was supposed to be held on January 20 and 21.

It also postponed four tournaments. The Splatoon Koshien 2023 National Finals was to take place this month, but not anymore. The Splatoon 3 World Championship and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Online Challenge Final Stage, and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe World Championship 2024, all to be held at Nintendo Live 2024, have been postponed as well.

Nintendo apologized for any inconvenience that was caused due to this incident.

I hope whoever is in charge of investigating these threats finds the culprits responsible. Threatening the lives of innocent people should have no place here.
