Nexus Mods says “no thank you” to anti-gay Baldur’s Gate 3 mod

Some people just don't know how folks got down in these fantasy lands.

It’s great to see there are still communities who are fighting for diversity, equity, and inclusion. This goes doubly for the gaming space. So, a huge thanks is in order for Nexus Mods booting a bigoted set of mods from their platform.

Apparently, there was a mod that had been uploaded to the site for Baldur’s Gate 3. The mod’s intent was to reskin the model of a character named Dame Aylin to be a “fully immersive male version”. Not only was the model changed, but AI was also used to change the dialog and voice performance of the character, voiced by Helen Keeley.

The mod was uploaded on December 3rd and was immediately protested by Baldur’s Gate 3 fans. It was then highlighted that this mod is a part of a pack called No Alphabets (editor’s note: eyeroll). The next day, Nexus Mods banned the account that uploaded it, Yedlike, for violating its community guidelines.

This appears to be a throwaway account created to upload a mod that attempts to skirt our community guidelines. The mod in question appears to reduce diversity in Baldur’s Gate 3 by taking a same-sex couple and swapping the gender of one of the partners to make them heterosexual.

We are for inclusivity, we are for diversity. If we think someone is uploading a mod on our site with the intent to deliberately be against inclusivity and/or diversity then we will take action against it. The same goes for people attempting to troll other users with mods deliberately to cause a rise.

We aren’t the authority on what users can and cannot mod. Us removing a mod only means it cannot be found at Nexus Mods, nothing more, nothing less. As a private business, we have a right to choose what content we do and do not want to host on our platform. Respect this right the same way you want respect for your rights.

Nexus Mods ban notice

While the “No Alphabets” pack has not been uploaded to Nexus Mods, it was located elsewhere. And it is definitely what you think it is. It is a mode to ensure “gender and sexuality of world NPCs match medieval status quo”. Do they not know folks got down back then?

Yeah, these bigots need to touch grass, rocks, hot molten magma, something…
