AMD is preparing to imminently announce a new update to their Threadripper line up. The 7000 series CPUs will be available in both pro and non-pro variants.

This is welcome news as the 5000 series offered impressive gains over the 3000 series but the restriction to pro-only skus . These pro skus were not only expensive but also limited exclusively to OEM providers such as Lenovo at launch. This limitation left those wanting to build their own system waiting for month until the chips became available for the DIY market.

Don’t expect the new CPUs to be cheap but having both pro and non-pro variants will allow enthusiasts to build systems that are cost optimized for their needs.
