In news that might excite some, Roundcube looks to be merging with Nextcloud. While I’m not jumping for joy, I am a bit intrigued. This could see me stop hosting a web client for MajorsHouse.

The move here is to potentially boost Nextcloud’s webmail offerings. Also, starting in 2024, it will invest in Roundcube to try and push their developent further. This should see Roundcube get better for everyone, not just Nextcloud users.

For those who are using Nextcloud Mail, Roundcube will not replace that. In fact, there are no plans currently to merge the two products together in the short term. The press release states that there will be no immediate changes for Roundcube. Just improvements to Roundcube.

Looks like business as usual for a lot of folks.
