Apple releases a sports app

That's the story.

I guess Apple had some time on its hands lately.

Today, it launched a new free sports app called unsurprisingly, Apple Sports. Just like its weather and news apps, this is an app that does exactly what it says and gives you sports information. You can star your favorite teams and leagues to get up-to-date information on the games they’re playing.

If you are already using the “My Sports” functionality in Apple News and Apple TV, your teams will sync automatically to the app. For me, the only team it shows I’m following is the NC A&T Aggies.

I am also following the Carolina Panthers (I don’t want to hear it), but that didn’t come through. That’s because leagues like the NFL aren’t available in the app yet, but will be coming closer to the season starting back up again.

The leagues that are featured in the app right now are:

  • MLS
  • NBA
  • NCAA basketball (men’s and women’s)
  • NHL
  • Bundesliga
  • LaLiga
  • Liga MX
  • Ligue 1
  • Premier League
  • Serie A

Recently, I told someone that I haven’t followed sports in some time because of COVID and having severely lost interest in them.

Maybe Apple was all I needed to get back into it again!
