Apple thinks only Pros and above deserve three Thunderbolt ports

Apple kept us in the dark.

I’ve finally come off my high of a black MacBook Pro that I’ll never be able to afford right now. While that was the only thing that had changed between last year’s Pros and this year’s, it was brought to my attention, there were other things Apple didn’t share with us during that video last night between the M3 Pro and the base M3.

Apparently, the M3 Pro and Max versions of the MacBook Pro get all the cool stuff. First, it appears that the base M3 MacBook Pro only get two Thunderbolt ports. Not only that, but it is Thunderbolt 3. The Pro and Max variants get 3 Thunderbolt 4 ports.

But, wait! There’s more! Notice something about that above picture that’s highlighting the port situation? Now, you’d be forgiven if you thought they chose two different colors to highlight the different port configurations. That could be it. But it prompted me to go to Apple’s website. That’s when I noticed something else I didn’t care for.

It appears that the Space Black versions are only exclusive to the M3 Pro and Max versions of the laptop. And remember when I celebrated that the price of the MacBook Pro dropped $400? It now makes sense. They got rid of the 13″ with the 14″ and said “here you go”. I don’t understand why they didn’t make it uniform at all.

I don’t think people should have to pay an extra $400 for an extra port and a different color.

Also, what’s up with those memory configs? 18 GB of RAM. That’s an odd choice.

Apple, are you okay?
