Snoop Dogg is working with his son Cordell Broadus to start gaming studio, Death Row Games. This studio was creating with the express purpose to give support to minority creators making games within Fortnite. For those unfamiliar, Epic Games recently created an Unreal Editor within Fortnite to make games within the game.

As Afrotech pointed out, Snoop and Cordell have worked in video games previously. Snoop is a playable character in Call of Duty, after all.

Death Row Games looks to put marginalized creators in control of their projects despite them being constrained to Fortnite.

Let’s really put resources into building Death Row Games and making a home for diverse creators in the gaming ecosystem and be a part of the narrative, the storytelling of what the next game should be looking like. And I keep saying ‘show representation of the culture in these sectors,’ versus us just being the talent. We wanted to make sure that we’re part of the decision that’s being made and more importantly tell these stories from diverse creators and focus on creatives in underserved communities.”

It’s refreshing to see those who have come up reach back down and bring other people with them to be able to enjoy some of the success they would never see otherwise. It’s even better when they are helping those who are often overlooked in the space. And I also help to be biased in the situation as a Black man who loves video games!
