In what seemed like a shocking story to come out since Xbox putting games on PlayStation, today’s news doesn’t seem like that big of a deal.

Sony Interactive Entertainment had a financial call today where the boss Hiroki Totoki stated that new games from God of War or Spider-Man series weren’t coming out this fiscal year. Actually, he said:

Regarding first-party software, we aim to continue to focus on producing high-quality works and developing live service games. But while major projects are currently under development, we do not plan to release any new major existing franchise titles next fiscal year like God of War Ragnarok and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2.”

While this could look a bit troubling, the only thing I’m reading from this is that PlayStation won’t be dealing in sequels this year. If anything this looks promising as we may start seeing some original IPs come out now that the transfer from PS4 to PS5 should be complete.

Then, there is the spectre of live service games.
