PS5 disc drive fears have been greatly exaggerated

This definitely sounds better than what I thought.

Earlier, we heard PS5 Slims were going to need an internet connection for the disc drive. I may have thought the worst possible outcome for it. It’s nice to hear that it isn’t actually that bad after all.

As YouTuber Mystic points out, it appears that you only need to be online to pair the drive. It grabs an update if it needs it, and then you’re off to the races.

You can also use a second disc drive if there was one already paired to the PS5. It should then be easy to just pass and go if needed.

This also makes reselling a drive painless as it doesn’t seem to matter where the drive came from. As long as the drive can pair to the new system, you should be good.

Of course, the only issue is what happens when the PS5 can’t legitimately access a Sony server. I still go to events where internet isn’t an easy thing to come by. But I guess I should plan ahead, right.
