What does it say for a studio to have so many things go wrong with development that it just closes up shop right after a game launch. While we may not have all the answers now, I’m sure in time we’ll know what happened with The Day Before.
Fntastic, the development studio behind The Day Before announced Monday that they were shutting down the studio. This went into effect immediately. This was the latest action taken after they finally released the game on Steam Early Access.
We invested all our efforts, resources and man-hours into the development of The Day Before, which was our first huge game. We really wanted to release new patches to reveal the full potential of the game, but unfortunately, we don’t have the funding to continue the work.
It’s important to note that we didn’t take any money from the public during the development of The Day Before; there were no pre-orders or crowdfunding campaigns. We worked tirelessly for five years, pouring our blood, sweat and tears into the game.
At the moment, the future of The Day Before and Propnight is unknown, but servers will stay operational. We apologise if we didn’t meet your expectations. We did everything within our power, but unfortunately, we miscalculated our capabilities. Creating games is an incredibly challenging endeavour.”

It was no secret that the game’s development was having issues since it was announced. Many people were afraid that the game was just a scam. Some thought it was too ambitious, or that it was just vaporware. Given how poorly the game was received when it launched and Monday’s actions, people still believe that to be the case.
Fntastic also faced criticism for using unpaid volunteer labor to make the game. There was also a weird lawsuit with a Korean calendar app.
So, what happened? Where are the volunteers who worked on the game? Again, hopefully, it will be a matter of time before we all know what happened to The Day Before.
